Active Ambassadors at Wilsden Primary School

Pupil leadership is something that is growing ever more important in primary schools and at Wilsden Primary this is no different.

We were recently invited to deliver our Active Ambassadors programme at Wilsden Primary School, where the aim was to introduce leadership skills and positive behaviours to a group of Year 5 and 6 pupils.

The challenge set for the children was to take what they learned and use it to create structured, engaging lunchtime activities for their peers — helping to improve behaviour and increase physical activity during the most unstructured part of the school day.

Our Lead Active Ambassador, Jake, delivered the sessions and reflected on the experience:

“Delivering the programme at Wilsden was an absolute pleasure. Every child took to the opportunity brilliantly, showing real pride in their work and leadership roles. They worked hard to achieve their objectives and earn their stickers, demonstrating genuine passion for their new responsibilities. They truly rose to the challenge!”

Throughout the programme, pupils explored the six key leadership skills, deepening their understanding through a mix of theory-based learning and practical activities. Engagement was exceptional, and pupils approached each task with enthusiasm and commitment.

Year 6 pupil Becca shared her thoughts:

“I really enjoyed earning the stickers that showed I had used one of my skills well. Every time we achieved an objective, we could fill in our learning journey at the back of our Active Ambassador book.”

Mr. Town, one of the many welcoming members of the Wilsden team, was highly supportive throughout the delivery.

Since completing the Active Ambassadors course, the children have embraced their new roles with energy and pride — creating structured, active opportunities at lunchtimes and demonstrating real leadership within their school community.

Liz Davidson, Executive Headteacher, reflected on the programme’s success:

“Providing the children with this training has given them the opportunity to become genuine role models in school. We’ve seen them take on their ambassadorial roles with pride and courage. The structure they’ve brought to lunchtimes has supported our supervisors and improved overall behaviour. The children are doing us proud and have truly become ambassadors for activity at Wilsden!”
